About the Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed

The birth place of the Rhodesian Ridgeback was in Rhodesia, which is now known as Zimbabwe.  The Ridgeback was is known to have been associated with the Hottentot tribe.  It's original purpose was to track down large game (mostly lions) and keep them at bay in a pack of two or three until the hunter arrived.

The Ridgeback represents a strong, muscular, active dog symmetrical and balanced in outline.  A mature Ridgeback is a handsome, upstanding and athletic dog, capable of great endurance with a fair (good) amount of speed. Of even, dignified temperament, the Ridgeback is devoted and affectionate to his master, reserved with strangers. The peculiarity of this breed is the ridge on the back. The ridge must be regarded as the characteristic feature of the breed.

The Ridgeback should be an all around dog.  Their abilities should include tracking, obedience, lure coursing, agility and a good family dog.  They should be reserve with strangers but not aggressive.  Ridgebacks are good companion dogs and should be patient with children.  This really is an amazing breed.
